reasons for artistic research

Tags: ,

Wednesday November 23 2011 there is an open lecture in S2 at Konstfack by Mick Wilson between 10-12 am entitled ”Reasons for Artistic Research”.  In the lecture Wilson maps the current European situation of artistic research from his subjective view and experience as artist, writer and leading member of the European Arts Research Network (EARN). During the afternoon (13-16 pm) there will also be a seminar at Konstfack (in s5) on writing in research:  a discussion based on Wilsons text “Dear Reader” (download here) but also a possibility for doctoral students to address questions about the process of artistic research.
Mick Wilson is the founder Dean of GradCAM, Dublin and has led the Artist as Citizen EU policy grouping(2009-10). He has organized many conferences, exhibitions, summer schools and developed several new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across creative arts theory and practice. Mick’s research and professional interests are eclectic, ranging from the reputational economy of contemporary art to the rhetorical construction of knowledge conflict, and from the contested reconstruction of the
contemporary university to the general arena of critical cultural pedagogies.

bergman variations

Tags: , ,

PhD candidate and composer Kent Olofsson has composed the music for Bergmanvariationer, a performance produced by Malmö stadsteater in collaboration with Teatr Weimar, that will have it’s first opening Friday November 18. The performance elaborates on themes and associations in the film works by Ingmar Bergman, exploring the imagery of both the director and his photographer Sven Nykvist. Which means melancholia, lost faith and sinfulness in combination with the almost unbearable lightness of nordic summer nights during which people fight with themselves, each other and the mere conditions for existence…..

system aesthetics and the multitudinous forms of conceptualism (1 hp)

December 5-6 Luke Skrebowski, lecturer in Art History and Theory at the University of Cambridge, will be coming to Stockholm to give a lecture and higher seminar, together forming a course within Konstnärliga forskarskolan (1 hp).
His presentation in Stockholm will depart from two recent essays: “Productive Misunderstandings: Interpreting Mel Bochner’s Theory of Photography”, in which Skrebowski uses Bochner’s photographic works between 1967 and 1970 to reassess and complicate the genealogy of photoconceptualism as told by Jeff Wall,  and “All Systems Go: Recovering Hans Haacke’s Systems Art” in which Skrebowski attempts to readdress Haacke’s work from the perspective of Systems Thinking and retrace his connections to Jack Burnham, offering a different reading of the politics and critical potential in Haacke’s practice to that of Benjamin Buchloh‘s canonical interpretations.
Luke Skrebowski has been invited by artists Goldin+Senneby and Petra Bauer within the framework of the Konstnärliga forskarskolan. Further details will be posted on this website soon – for registration please mail Emma Kihl at emma@konstnarligaforskarskolan.se.
