May 17 2012 there will be a Konstnärliga forskarskolan workshop/course (1 hp) called Gender in opera performance in Stockholm. The course is based on a full day physical and intellectual workshop in which the participants will be working with a range of opera scenes. Departing from the physical choices made by the participants there will be a discussion on the role of tradition and convention (like understanding of genre or the psychology of a charachter), individual habits and the analysis of the performative situation: the imagined intention and goal of the character. Workshop leader Kent Sjöström concluded his PhD thesis in Theatre, Skådespelaren i handling – strategier för tanke och kropp (The actor in action - strategies for though and body) in 2007 and has since then been teaching and researching at the Malmö Theatre Academy , where he has been part of the development of a series of new courses in ”The theory and practice of Theatre”. He also teaches regularly at the master program at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg.
