An International Artistic Research Conference with Actions in Public Space

reson-art.jpg

September 9-12, 2014, Stockholm, Sweden
Application Deadline: June 16, 2014
Send application to resonart@arkdes.se

The research project: In Situ-Action: Resonance, Improvisation and Variation of Public Space at the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design invites participation in the international artistic research conference Re(s)on Art.

The conference is planned in collaboration with and coordinated as the second of three international events in 2014

  • FASE, Sound Art Festival in Berlin June 11-13. Coordinator: Raquel RReivera
  • Re(s)on-Art, in Stockholm Sept. 9-12. Coordinators: Ricardo Atienza, Monica Sand.
  • International Congress on Sonic and Audivisual Spaces, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, December 2-5. Coordinator: José Luis Carles.

The aim of the conference Re(son)-Art is to explore public daily situations and to encourage daily urban awareness by collective actions, described as “the art of resonating with/in/through the city”. This means that the exploration will take the form of careful interventions, based in the participants’ own research and artistic practise.

How are spatial transformations played out, how does it sound, what rhythms does it reinforce? What kind of different voices, expressions and collective actions are supported by contemporary architecture and planning? Where do we find interesting thought-provoking social and cultural manifestations?

We welcome groups of artists/researchers/architects/planners to contribute by sending a short description of an action that can be collectively performed during the conference in Stockholm. Theplanned action should be developed and performed in situ, during the conference, by the participants under guidance of the proponents. In this collective setting a wide range of methods, theories and tools will contribute to the (mis)understanding of the city.

Practices of the Essential In-Between

50% PhD seminar by STEALTH.unlimited (Ana Džokić + Marc Neelen)

Practices of the Essential In-Between is an explorative journey with a transformative consequence for STEALTH.unlimited’s practice. The event on May 16 explores the changing landscape in which spatial practices have been opereating since the start of the global crisis in 2008.

Triggered by three ongoing projects, STEALTH.unlimited will open up the discussion on the creation of existential spaces of sharing or resilience, of doing good, while tackling uneasiness towards emerging career paths modelled upon comparable spatial practices (until recently labeled alternative or experimental).

With contributions by Henrietta Palmer (Mejan Arc, KKH, Stockholm), Doina Petrescu (Atelier d’architecture autogérée, Paris and Sheffield School of Architecture) and Tor Lindstrand (KTH School of Architecture and Economy, Stockholm).

Where: Weld, Norrtullsgatan 7
When: May 10-12

Over the course of three days, artist Malin Arnell will enact a performative research seminar at Weld in Stockholm. The seminar encompasses a number of public actions, screenings and discussions that directly engage her ongoing artistic research as it is generated through the live event. Specifically, the title 67,3% performative research seminar points to the moment that this seminar occupies within the arc of her overall research, which currently takes place within the framework of a PhD in Choreography at University of Dance and Circus / Stockholm University of the Arts.

Arnell understands 67,3% performative research seminar as a methodology of entanglements in which each participant comes to exist within the research framework, and in which the movement across reenactments, presentations and conversations generates the choreographic.
