April 27 – El Hadji Sy: Painting, Performance, Politics – A dialogue on the practice of El Hadji Sy

El Hadji Sy is a visual and performance artist, political activist and curator from Dakar in Senegal. He chooses painting as his preferred medium to develop his artistic research, negotiate his multiple identities, and conduct his ideological battles.

28 april – Clémentine Deliss: The Post-Ethnographic Museum as Curatorial Experimentation

In 2015, an ethnographic museum appears to be out of time, and its collection unable to combine with current concepts of contemporaneity. What can one do to break this stasis and dislodge the anachronism embedded in its collections? How can ethnographic artefacts, of which there exist over 5 million in Germany alone, provide a central pool from which to reconfigure experimental research into visual culture and artistic practice?

The performative part of the seminar at Dansens hus is staged as a collaborative dialogue, by the different voices from the collaborative process. These voices comes partly from Reich’s own experiences of collaborative productions, partly from voices and comments from the working process and performance of Just my imagination I, which were presented at Stockholm University of the Arts, October 2014, and from conversations with collegues about staging and performing the research process.

The opponent for the seminar will be Rasmus Ölme and their discussion will take place at Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts, Valhallavägen 189, T-house, room T2 on 13th of April at 15.00-16.30

Higher seminar: Somatic Archiving

Professor Susan Kozel, School of Art and Culture/K3, Malmö University

This seminar will be based on AffeXity, one of the artistic research strands of the larger Living Archives research project at Malmö University. With AffeXity a group of artists and designers (from dance, music, photography, computer science and interaction design) used augmented reality browsers (AR) running on mobile devices to create choreographies of affect in urban spaces using archival material and live performance. This seminar will open up both our practical artistic methodologies and the conceptual or theoretical questions we posed with the research. Improvisation and its relation to affect, somatic materialism, and performative re-enactment through media and memories will be discussed.
